The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.39 -- over a third taller than it is wide.

This non-traditional style crest is suitable for shipboard decor, sweatshirts, bags, or jackets. Its wide-open shield displays even complex family insignia to good effect.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.09 -- very nearly square.

This crest style is a little "edgier" than the traditional treatment, and is best suited to a simple family insignia that does not contain multiple elements.

The same "edgy" non-traditional shield design as style 22A, trimmed with an elaborate border topped with a large thistle pattern and featuring four small thistles along the edges. A banner draped from the hooked elements in the border displays the family name.
The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.07 -- very nearly square.

This unusual crest style is best suited to a simple family insignia that does not contain multiple elements.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 3

In this design, a  pointed shield is surmounted by a front-facing knight's helmet surrounded by flared mantling ribbons and resting on a straight banner on which the family name is displayed.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:0.99 -- just slightly wider than it is tall (nearly square). It is not suitable for applications requiring a narrow, "tall" design.

Bear in mind that the more elaborate the mantling and banner, the smaller the insignia. You should select the largest size crest that will work for your project.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 24

The design features a shield resting on a circular border on which the motto appears. It is crested by a furled banner showing the family name.

The positioning of the mottoes and the size of the lettering varies in proportion to  the number and length of words.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.14 -- about 14% taller than it is wide.

Because the banner slightly obscures the top corners of the shield, this design might not be suitable for insignia with important elements in the upper corners.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 25

This design features a simple shield resting on crossed swords, crowned by a knight's helmet with plume. The family name appears on a banner below.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.60 -- just over half again as tall as it is wide.

The understated decorative elements on this crest make it a good choice to display the motif on the shield.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 26

A simple shield encircled with laurel leaves and crowned with fleur de lis, all resting on a furled name banner.

The approximate width-to-height ratio of this design is 1:27 -- just over a quarter taller than it is wide.

Although the shield itself is open, the prominent laurel border occupies a large percentage of the design space. Keep in mind the narrow shape of the shield itself when making your selection.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 27

A basic shield with slightly rounded point is surmounted by  an ornate forward-facing knight's helmet with plumes. Elaborate two-color ribbon mantling flares out from either side of the shield.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.26 --just over one quarter taller than it is wide.

The more elaborate the mantling or banner, the smaller the shield bearing insignia. This crest with its ornate mantling works is best stitched in larger sizes, and for this reason is not available in smaller than 5" size.

You should select the largest size crest that will fit your project.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 28

An ornate shield with narrow top border and elegant lower border, similar to Design 27, except the "shoulders" of the shield are somewhat wider.  The whole is surmounted by a crown and rests on a banner that displays the family name.

The approximate width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.26 -- roughly a quarter taller than it is wide.

The relatively open shield displays insignia to good advantage. In contrast to Design 27, the open shield is wider, making it suitable for almost all designs.

ABOUT CREST STYLE 29

This design features a shield encircled by the belted motif of the traditional Scots Clan badge, on which the family name is featured. The whole is surmounted by a crown.

The approximate width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.52 -- roughly two thirds as wide as it is tall.

The shield portion of the design is relatively small compared to the other design elements, so it may not be suitable for very complex insignia.

This design features a triangular shield on a wide border resting on crossed swords. The family name is arrayed below.

The approximate height-to-width ratio of this crest is 1:1.06 -- just slightly wider than it is tall.

The relatively open shield displays most insignia to good effect, but as it narrows toward the bottom it may be best suited for insignia that do likewise.
