The crest is another in the classic style, featuring an escutcheon (shield) in Medieval style, crested with a knight's helmet and surrounded by two-color mantling. The whole rests upon a furling banner on which the family motto (or name) is displayed. The name may be displayed above if desired.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.22 – just about a quarter taller than it is wide.

This design has a relatively small area for displaying family imagery because its ornate mantling and banner take up approximately ¾ of the design space. It is thus best for simple iconography, since the more elaborate the mantling or banner, the smaller the insignia, and complex details may be lost in all but the largest size.

Due to the possible loss of detail in the stitched crest, this design is not available in 4" size, and some family crests may not be available in 5" size.You should choose the largest size that your project will allow.

The width-to-height ratio of this crest is 1:1.32, making it about one third taller than it is wide.

The shield is open to display the iconography, but bear in mind as you make your selection that the mantling, laurel, and lion occupy over half the design space, so smaller sizes may not be suitable for complex imagery. Always choose the largest size that your project will allow.
