About Punkinhead Bear

Punkinhead, the beloved mascot of Santa Claus in the annual Eaton's Santa Claus Parade, was familiar to generations of Canadian children from his debut in 1947 until Eaton's stopped sponsoring the parade in 1977. Throughout the 50s and 60s, the sad little bear with the topknot was available as a stuffed toy, and appeared on a huge variety of merchandise, including dishes, lunch pails, story books, and coloring pages. A GALLERY OF MINI STOCKINGS, BOTH OLD AND NEW

The sock ornaments in the pictures below span some thirty-five years of crafting. In the early days, I made them all by hand and traditional machine sewing. Once I got my first embroidery machine, I added embroidered motifs to the front but still made the stockings in the same way with the sewing machine. Now, of course, I digitize all my stocking ornaments and make them entirely in the hoop.
