When creating soft toys, I sometimes like to use felt eyes rather than the plastic variety, especially on toys for younger children. In the old days before home embroidery machines, making the eyes was a rather tedious affair, as each element was fussy-cut from felt and glued or stitched together by hand before being attached to the toy.

Now I usually use embroidered eyes like those on this page. They make up quickly in any color, and are a great time-saver. They're also a good way to use up scraps of felt and tear-away stabilizer. 

My sister has even been using these embroidered eyes on her crocheted toys and reports that they are an excellent enhancement.

ITH SOFT-TOY EYES STYLE #2 

Back in the day, I used to fussy-cut individual eye pieces from felt and assemble the eyes before attaching them to Pinkie's face. 

Nowadays, I can stitch up a pair of Style #2 eyes in about 5 minutes! They can be attached using fabric glue, or sewn in place with small hand stitches.

I stitched my first few pairs of these eyes on self-colored felt, and left a narrow border around the edge when trimming. I quite like the look.

But I found that I could create quite a different effect by stitching on contrasting or white felt.
